Antieke geneeskunde/Ancient Medicine
Deze vereniging heeft als doel om wetenschappers binnen Nederland, maar ook wereldwijd met elkaar in contact te brengen die op elk denkbare manieren bezig zijn met antieke geneeskunde. Hierbij kunnen alle facetten aan bod komen, zoals geneeskunde, religie, rituelen, antropologie en geschiedenis, maar ook vergelijkend onderzoek tussen Prehistorie en Oudheid, of Oudheid versus Middeleeuwen. Tevens is er aandacht voor evenementen binnen de antieke geneeskunde/This association aims to bring scientists in the Netherlands, but also worldwide, into contact with each other who are involved in ancient medicine in every imaginable way. All facets can be discussed, such as medicine, religion, rituals, anthropology and history, but also comparative research between Prehistory and Antiquity, or Antiquity versus Middle Ages. There is also attention for events within ancient medicine.

Drs. G.H.M.M. (Mark) Beumer is a PhD-Candidate at Charles University Prague, First Faculty of Medicine, Institute for History of Medicine and Foreign Languages. Dr. Claire Burridge is Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow at the Deparment of History at the University of Sheffield. She received her PhD in 2020 with her dissertation An Interdisciplinary Investigation into Carolingian Medical Knowledge and Practice. She was supervised by em. prof. dr. Rosamond McKitterick. When she arrived in Sheffield in May 2021 to begin a three-year Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship, ‘Crossroads: The Evolution of Early Medieval Medicine in Global and Local Contexts’. Dr. Jared J. Eddy, MD, is an infectious disease physician at National Jewish Health, Denver (Colorado) United States of America. Dr. Eddy is in the Division of Mycobacterial and Respiratory Infections. Within the history of medicine, he is interesed in the history of infectious diseases, especially tuberculosis in the Roman Empire. You can find his profile page here. Dr. Irene Salvo is Lecturer in Greek History at the University of Exeter. Her area of expertise is ancient Greek history and epigraphy. Salvo gained her PhD in Ancient History from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (2011) with her dissertation Mani impure. Contaminazione dell’omicidio e rituali civici di purificazione nel mondo greco antico. She was supervised by em. prof. dr. Mani Carmine Ampolo. Her research explores Greek religion and magic as an object of cultural history. She has published on four main research themes: blood pollution, gender, emotion, knowledge and education. Salvo applies socio-anthropological and psychological theories to evidence from material culture, inscriptions in particular. Thanks to the support of the Leventis Foundation, Salvo can carry out the research project 'Divine Knowledge: Religion, Gender, Ethnicity, and Access to Power in the Hellenistic and Imperial Greek World.' Dr. Cornelis van Tilburg is an education and research assistant at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society. He obtained his PhD in 2015 with his dissertation Streets and streams: health conditions and city planning in the Graeco-Roman world under the supervision of Prof. dr. Manfred Horstmanshoff and Prof. dr. Eric Moormann.
